Frequently asked questions

What is UK261?

UK261 is the British version of EU261/2004, introduced after Brexit. The regime is almost identical: same threshold (3-hour delay at final destination, cancellation within 14 days, denied boarding) and largely the same amounts. The legal basis is The Air Passenger Rights and Air Travel Organisers (Amendments) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019.

When does UK261 apply instead of EU261?

UK261 applies to: (1) flights from the UK with any airline, and (2) inbound flights to the UK with a UK carrier. EU261 continues to apply to flights from the EU + inbound flights with an EU carrier. For an AMS-LHR flight with KLM, EU261 applies; for LHR-AMS with BA, UK261 applies.

How much compensation under UK261?

The amounts are expressed in GBP: up to 1500 km £220, 1500-3500 km £350, over 3500 km £520. Some carriers pay the EU261 amount in EUR; we accept both.

How does escalation differ from EU261?

In the UK, you escalate to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) or the airline's ADR scheme (CEDR for BA/easyJet, AviationADR for the rest). For legal assistance: Money Claim Online (small claims) or a CCJ.

Does FlightMoneyBack.eu also work for UK261 cases?

Yes. Our claim flow is identical to EU261; only the escalation route differs (CAA instead of ILT). If you are unsure whether your flight falls under UK261 or EU261: enter it and we will automatically determine the correct legal route.
