Flight cancelled?
Up to €600 + a refund.

With a cancellation within 14 days before departure, you have three rights at once: fixed-rate compensation, a refund or rebooking, and the right to care (hotel, meals).

In case of a cancellation, you have three rights

💰

1. Fixed-rate compensation

€250-€600 per person, depending on distance. Fixed amount, independent of the ticket price.

🔄

2. Refund or rebooking

Full refund within 7 days, or a replacement flight of your choice (as soon as possible or at a later date).

🏨

3. Right to care

Food, drink, communication, and for overnight stays a hotel and transport - for as long as your flight has not been operated.

When is compensation due?

The threshold depends on how far in advance you were informed:

  • 14 days or more before departure: no compensation due, only refund/rebooking.
  • 7-13 days before departure: compensation due unless the replacement flight departs no more than 4 hours later and arrives no more than 4 hours later.
  • Less than 7 days before departure: compensation due unless the replacement flight departs within 1 hour earlier or 2 hours later and arrives within 2 hours later.

On top of that: if extraordinary circumstances are invoked, the airline must prove them - it is not for you to refute them.

Frequently asked questions

What are my rights for a cancelled flight?

Three rights simultaneously: (1) full refund of the ticket price within 7 days or a replacement flight; (2) right to care (food, drink, hotel, transport) to a reasonable level; (3) fixed compensation of €250 to €600, unless you were informed 14 days or more before departure.

Do I always get compensation for cancellation?

Not if the airline informed you 14 days or more before departure. Not in genuine extraordinary circumstances (volcanic eruption, airport closure due to bomb threat). Yes for technical problems, staff shortages, planning errors or rostering - those are not extraordinary circumstances.

My flight was rebooked. Am I entitled?

A rebooking counts as cancellation of the original flight. If you depart 2+ hours later or arrive 3+ hours later, the same compensation amounts as for delay apply. Plus refund if you do not accept the rebooking.

How much compensation for a cancelled flight?

Up to 1500 km: €250. 1500-3500 km: €400. More than 3500 km intercontinental: €600 (if less than 4 hours extra delay on replacement flight: halved).

What if the airline is bankrupt?

In case of bankruptcy, a claim is still legally valid, but collection becomes difficult. We assess each case whether it makes sense to start a claim - if no recovery is possible, we send no invoice (no cure, no pay).

Can I get both refund and compensation?

Yes. Refund of the ticket price (Article 8 EU261) is a different right from fixed compensation (Article 7 EU261). We claim both simultaneously.

How far back can I claim?

Up to 3 years after the scheduled flight date under Dutch law.
